This week on courts (Montpellier, Singapore, Cordoba, Adelaide) – Week 08/2021

The first Grand Slam of the season is over. Though, that does not mean tennis season is over. There are plenty of tournaments planned and even with some cancelations, changes, and rescheduling, we will enjoy a lot of tennis during the following weeks. Let’s check what this week brings.

Tennis Week 08/2021

A week after the Grand Slam is always a bit special. Players who played in the second week of the Grand Slam usually take a break from action for a week or two.

However, there are a lot of players who want to play after early losses and week pause. Therefore we will see a pretty solid line-up this week.

ATP 250 Open Sud de France

Place: Montpellier, France
February 22 – February 28
Surface: Indoor Hard
Financial Commitment: $323 970
Draw size: 28

The first indoor tournament of the season will be played in Montpellier. Bautista, Goffin, and Hurkacz have a reason to let fans forget and show a better play than in Melbourne. However, I will pick another player as my favorite for Open Sud de France Tournament.

Jannik Sinner is a big promise and 250 level is just the level he can easily win.

Who to watch: Bautista, Goffin, Hurkacz
Our worth the money call: Sinner

ATP 250 Cordoba Open

Place: Cordoba, Argentina
February 22 – February 28
Surface: Clay
Financial Commitment: $393 935
Draw size: 28

The first clay tournament of the season will open on Monday in Argentina. A lot of good clay players will be present, but one name stands above all. Diego Schwartzman.

Who to watch: Schwartzman
Our worth the money call: Schwartzman

ATP 250 Singapore Open

Place: Singapore, Singapore
February 22 – February 28
Surface: Indoor Hard
Financial Commitment: $361 800
Draw size: 28

The closest stop on the way from Melbourne is Singapore. Cilic, Bublik, and Mannarino are high on the entry list and also on my list in Singapore, but I will focus also on Lloyd Harris. This young South-African player can have a break-through season, follow him closely.

Who to watch: Cilic, Bublik, Mannarino
Our worth the money call: Harris

WTA 500 Adelaide International

Place: Adelaide, Australia
February 21 – February 27
Surface: Hard
Financial Commitment: $535 530
Draw size: 32

The only WTA tournament this week will be played in Adelaide. Seven players ranked between 10th and 20th place in the WTA ranking should play Adelaide (but be aware of some late withdrawals). That is very promising and I can not wait to watch mainly Iga Swiatek.

Who to watch: Andreescu, Swiatek, Bencic, Mertens, Rybakina, Konta, Martic
Our worth the money call: Swiatek
