Marian Vajda, former coach of Novak Djokovic from 2006 until 2022, was relieved of his duties by Alex Molcan.
Alex Molcan, a twenty-five-year-old Slovak tennis player, hired Vajda in May 2022 with the aim of becoming an ATP Top 30 player.
He was number 47 at the beginning of May 2022 and reached number 39 for two weeks in August 2022. Then he started to fall in the ATP rankings and currently sits at 113th place.
The cooperation between Molcan and Vajda came to an end in the summer of 2023 and was officially confirmed by Molcan yesterday.
It takes no financial brain to realize that paying one of the top coaches when you are outside of the top 100 is not financially sustainable in the long term.
Alex Molcan has the potential. He proved it with his win over Tsitsipas in a Davis Cup match last weekend, but it will need another coach to make use of it.
Marian Vajda, one of the masterminds behind Djokovic’s success is now free to coach someone else or rest for a while.
