Other important information about Laver Cup

Team Europe is defending the Laver Cup after 15:9 win in Prague in September 2017.

Laver Cup 2019 will be hosted by Geneve, Switzerland in September 2019.

A new tennis tournament and hopefully tradition will be set up in September. Laver Cup will be held in Prague, the Czech Republic from Friday 24th September till Sunday 26th September 2017.

The trophy for winner and tournament get their name after Rod Laver, the phenomenal tennis player from Australia, who won 11 Grand Slam singles titles from 1960 till 1969. In the year 1969, he won all four grand slam tournaments.

This year, the tournament will be hosted by O2 Arena in Prague, the Czech Republic, next year we will see players in the United States.

The tournament is basically the match between Europe and the Rest of the World. Both teams will be represented by 6 players, which will meet in 12 matches during the weekend. Every day we will see 3 singles and 1 doubles matches. Every match will be played on 2 winning sets, but in the case of split sets, tie-break to 10 points will be played. Each team will be awarded points for every won match. 1 point for Friday’s matches, 2 points for Saturday’s matches, 3 points for Sunday’s matches. In a case of the draw after all 12 matches on Sunday, decisive doubles will be played that day.

Teams were set by captains, with last two names announced today. The only really surprising name is Denis Shapovalov, young Canadian, currently in 143rd place in ATP Ranking. I personally expected Nick Kyrgios from Australia, but who knows how the decision of John McEnroe was made.

Updated 27th August 2017: Milos Raonic withdrew from Laver Cup due to injury and was replaced by Nick Kyrgios from Australia.

Updated 22nd Septemeber 2017: Juan Martin DelPotro withdrew from Laver Cup due to exhausting program and was replaced by Francis Tiafoe from the USA

Wilson which is equipment partner of Laver Cup will show up in hands of 3 players, three of them in Team World. 4 players will use Babolat rackets. 3 players play with HEAD (and Head definitely miss Novak Djokovic). John Isner as the only player with Prince racket.

Updated 27.08.2017 – Raonic withdrawal means that Babolat will have most players in Prague, and Yonex will have two players there.

Updated 22.09.2017 – delPotro withdrawal means that Wilson will have just 1 player in Prague, and Yonex will have three players thanks to Tiafoe. New order: Babolat 4, Head 3, Yonex 3, Wilson 1, Prince 1
