ATP Finals 2019 – Our Predictions
The best eight players of 2019 will meet in Nitto ATP Finals 2019. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Matteo Berrettini made the cut.
Looking into the field of the players we do not expect much from Matteo Berrettini. His first appearance is a major success for him but this stage can be too big for him right now.
The same can be told about the Stefanos Tsitsipas, who eventually can beat everyone but also can lose with everyone. Alexander Zverev won ATP Finals 2018 and everybody expected that season 2019 will be full of his triumphs. Unfortunately, Zverev did not fulfill his goals. Participation at London Finals 2019 is probably his biggest success so far. It would be very surprising if he would retain the title. Dominic Thiem will probably suffer from the surface as he likes the clay surface more.
That leaves us with four biggest favorites.
Daniil Medvedev showed stunning performances from July and is now considered as the biggest “NextGen” star. Everybody expects him to win Grand Slam very soon. We would not underestimate him but we also expect that his exhausting schedule in the last two months can impact his results at Nitto ATP Finals 2019.
Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafa Nadal are still the prime contenders for us. All three should be well-rested, as they played just one tournament after Asia series. And all three played very good tennis in those tournaments (Federer in Basel, Djokovic, and Nadal in Paris).
Who to pick?
It is basically a coin-toss for us. In the end, we decided to go with Novak Djokovic. Hard to explain the choice but we believe that he can prevail in a match against Nadal and Federer. He is younger and probably in the best health of all three.
