The usual two ATP tournaments package and the start of an exceptional WTA 1000 tournament in the middle of the week is awaiting us this week. Check the schedule below.
Tennis Week 17/2021
ATP 250 BMW Open
Place: Munich, Germany
April 26 – May 2
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $481 270
Draw size: 28
Alexander Zverev (No. 7) will lead the pack at Munich this week, but his supremacy will be strongly challenged. Ruud, Karatsev, and Sinner can surprise him and fans too.
Who to watch: Zverev, Lajovic, Ruud, Karatsev, Sinner
Our worth the money call: Sinner
ATP 250 Millenium Estoril Open
Place: Estoril, Portugal
April 26 – May 2
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $481 270
Draw size: 28
One top 10 player (Schwartzman) and another four players from second ten of ATP ranking. Estoril tournament has a long history of the fine event that prepares you well for series of ATP 1000 tournaments (Madrid & Roma).
Carreno Busta, Garin, Fognini, and Schwartzman should steal the show in Portugal, but I would add also Davidovich Fokina and Chardy as possible late rounds contenders.
Who to watch: Schwartzman, Carreno Busta, Garin
Our worth the money call: Carreno Busta
WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open
Place: Madrid, Spain
April 29 – May 8
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $ n/a
Draw size: 64
WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open will start on Wednesday (04/28) with qualification matches and follow the next day (04/29) with the main draw 1st round start. That gives us two free days at the start of the week that will be outweighed by the strong field of players.
Basically, everyone from the top 40 will be in Madrid. It is much easier to name a few players that will miss this exceptional tournament.
Who to watch: Barty, Halep, Kenin, Svitolina, Pliskova, Sabalenka, Kvitova, Swiatek
Our worth the money call: Barty
