US Open 2022 Winners Predictions

The last Grand Slam of the season is starting on Monday. That means that all eyes of tennis fans will be focused on Billie King Jean Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. Mine too.

The expectations are high even without Djokovic, Federer, or Zverev. There are several open questions we will get answers to. I will mention just a few.

Can Serena Williams win a match before she says “goodbye forever”?
Will Nick Kyrgios repeat his Wimbledon success?
Is Emma Raducanu ready to repeat or will we see another surprising winner?

There are many more questions tennis fans have and need answers to. Though, the ultimate one is regarding the winners. Who will celebrate on September 10 and 11? Here is my prediction.

US Open 2022 men’s singles winner

Before the season I picked Daniil Medvedev in my bold tennis predictions. And I think the pick still has its rationale behind it. Medvedev is well rested after he was denied access to Wimbledon.

He is defending US Open champion, so there is no doubt he knows how to play on hard courts. He is missing a “big win” this season, so this is the last but one chance to change it.

And he is building his form precisely, after the first-round loss in Montreal, he reached the semifinals in Cincinnati. Losses with Kyrgios and Tsitsipas always hurt, but both matches were decided in the third set. This could be an extra motivation for him in case they meet again in New York.

If I ask myself who can challenge Medvedev in New York, I see mainly Nadal, Kyrgios, and surprise, surprise Fritz.

However, Kyrgios is hard to predict, he can easily walk off in the first round after he sees someone he does not like in the stands. Nadal and the state of his body is a legitimate question. And Fritz? I believe he can trigger a big surprise one time. But is it the time yet?

So if I should make a bet and invest money, I would go with Medvedev. (and Fritz, because odds on him are fantastic).

And do not be afraid, I do not forget Alcaraz, who has the second lowest odds. I just do not believe he is ready yet. Best of five seems too much for him at the moment, in my eyes.

US Open 2022 ladies singles winner

You all remember last year’s ladies’ finals Raducanu versus Fernandez. Pre-tournament odds on this duo were close to a billion.

Of course, this season we have a clear favorite. Iga Swiatek rolled over the courts during spring. She won Doha, Miami, Indian Wells, Stuttgart, Rome, and Roland Garros. That is two times more than any other player this year (check it here). But there is a big if.

She is clearly struggling during the summer. Can she show up in New York and win it? Yes, she can, but the doubts remain.

If I look at the draw, I see at least thirty other names that can win US Open (and there are other sixty players who can do it even if I do not name them).

I would definitely name Simone Halep and Coco Gauff as my picks. Mainly Halep is building momentum and I have a feeling she is up for something big.

But of course, there is Badosa, Jabeur, Kasatkina, and Sakkari. Any of them can win it and it will be no surprise.

But if I should be my money on someone, I would pick Simone Halep. Can not explain why, but I have that feeling.
