This week on courts (Geneva, Lyon, Belgrade, Parma) – 20/2021

Two weeks of Master (or 1000) tournaments are gone and we are in preparation mode for Roland Garros (starting on 30th May). That does not mean we will not see great tennis this week. The biggest thing will be Roger Federer’s appearance in Geneva.

Tennis Week 20/2021

ATP 250 Gonet Geneva Open

Place: Geneva, Switzerland
May 16 – May 22
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $481 270
Draw size: 28

All eyes will be set on Roger Federer. But be aware that he did not play for a few months and clay is not his favorite surface. With Casper Ruud and Fabio Fognini in the draw I would be very careful with any outright winner bet on Roger.

Who to watch: Federer, Shapovalov, Ruud, Fognini
Our worth the money call: Ruud

ATP 250 Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon

Place: Lyon, France
May 17 – May 23
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $481 270
Draw size: 28

Three top ten players will be seen in Lyon at ATP 250 tournament. Thiem (who accepted the wild card and was not on the entry list before), Schwartzman and Berrettini are favorites but do not underestimate Sinner or Karatsev who will appear in Lyon too.

Who to watch: Thiem, Schwartzman, Berrettini, Sinner, Karatsev
Our worth the money call: Schwartzman

WTA 250 Belgrade Open

Place: Belgrade, Serbia
May 16 – May 22
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $235 238
Draw size: 32

Kiki Bertens task is clear. Return to the top 10. However, the competition will be quite fierce in Belgrade. Rybakina, Pavlyuchenkova, Podoroska, Ferro and Putintseva need a good performance to refresh their season. I also see Badosa as possible “dark horse”.

Who to watch: Bertens, Putintseva, Rybakina
Our worth the money call: Badosa

WTA 250 Emilia Romagna Open

Place: Parma, Italy
May 16 – May 22
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $235 238
Draw size: 32

Bianca Andreescu is the biggest name at the entry list of Emilia Romagna Open. However, I put more hopes Cori Gauff, Daria Kasatkina or Petra Martic.

Who to watch: Andreescu, Keys, Martic
Our worth the money call: Gauff
