Best Tennis Shoes 2020 – Top New Models

Every new season brings new or upgraded tennis shoe models. Everybody eagerly awaits the Adidas Stycon laceless model, but there is much more coming in the tennis shoe industry. We prepared this overview to help you with orientation and give you answers on what will be trending in the tennis shoe industry in 2020. And of course, we make our choice of the best tennis shoes in 2020. We will update our overview during the coming months as news about models and arrivals will be published.

Three Best Tennis Shoes 2020

It looks that almost all tennis shoe producers focused on one thing. Shoe Laces.

Laces are the theme of the 2020 season in the tennis shoe industry. The task seems clear.

How to prevent laces from breaking, how to hide laces, or how to get rid of laces entirely. All the most expected models take care of laces somehow.

I am curious what will be the reaction of recreational tennis players on this “laceless” development.

The other vital issues are the same as every season. How to improve traction, how to provide more comfort to feet, and how to increase the durability of the shoes.

What model dealt best with the challenges mentioned above? Our choice of the three best tennis shoe models for the 2020 season is in the table below.

NikeCourt Zoom Vapor Cage 4 tennis shoes came to the selected shops in mid-December 2019. The full-scale sale started in January, shortly before Australian Open 2020.

And now the new model from Nike is adopted by many professional tennis players (e.g. Kecmanovic, and many more).

NikeCourt Zoom Vapor Cage 4 will take advantage of all prominent technologies used by Zoom Cage and Vapor shoes. Zoom Cage will add durability, and Vapor will bring the speed.

Zoom Vapor Cage 4 will be a hybrid split model with increased abrasive drag against the court. Shoes should be very comfortable and provide enough support to the feet.

Hidden lace to prevent from getting blown out is another exceptional feature embedded in Zoom Vapor Cage 4.

Rafael Nadal is the face of these shoes, and if they are good enough for him, they should be good enough for everybody.

NIKE COURT TECH CHALLENGE 20

It is already 30 years from the day when Andre Agassi wore his Nike Air Tech Challenge 2. This season Nike celebrates the 30th anniversary with a revival of this iconic shoe. Nike Court Tech Challenge 20 comes to the market at the start of the summer and we expect a warm welcome from tennis players and collectors.

The design of shoes reminds the graphics of the original model from the nineties. However, the technology is new and modern.

Tech Challenge 20 has the Max Air unit for heel cushioning, grip for extra traction, and extended rubber for increased durability. The collar is asymmetrical for extended support of the ankle.

NikeCourt Tech Challenge is available in three different colors and its starting price is just slightly over $100. Frankly, these tennis shoes will be a big hit during autumn and US Open.

ASICS GEL RESOLUTION 8

The year 2020 should be another successful year for Asics shoes. A new version of popular Asics Gel-Resolution was introduced in December 2019.

Asics Gel-Resolution 8 takes another step for absolute comfort and stability of tennis players. The ultimate goal of creators was to make a shoe for baseline power players like Gael Monfils.

Monfils became the face of the 8th Gel-Resolution series. And that is no surprise as French player is known for perfect movement, speed, and change of the direction on the court.

Asics Gel-Resolution 8 uses two technologies: Dynawall and Dynawrap. Both technologies provide superior stability and flexibility with maximum comfort.

Additionally, Asics uses a unique outsole design that maximizes contact area of zones crucial for braking and reduces friction during sliding as part of the concept “brake the unbrakable.” Shoes have a lace garage on the tongue to prevent any lace breakages too.

Asics Gel-Resolution 8 shoes are made in three versions for kids, women, and men. Models are offered in different color variations. Asics also prepared a particular version of Gel-Resolution 8 Clay for clay surface.

Adidas Stycon model can be a game-changer. It is the first laceless shoes for all tennis players and used by one of the top tennis players. The player is Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the big premier came in January. Stefanos Tsitsipas already used Adidas Stycon ahead of big premiere during ATP Cup played in Australia.

Maybe his all year long “totally ripped off” shoelaces were part of a smart marketing campaign. It happened at the Australian Open in January 2019 and then again in July 2019 at Washington and back at Laver Cup.

Now his problems and problems of many other players should be gone. Adidas Stycon will be the first laceless tennis shoe model with a collar knit to secure hidden laces.

Additionally, the model keeps all the great features (midfoot stability and lateral movement support) of former Adidas models and adds something extra.

It is probably no accident that Roger Federer invested in On just at the moment when he should regain control of the “RF” logo that belonged to Nike till now. So be prepared for On Roger Federer Tennis Shoes in 2020.

Update 07/07/2020: The long tennis break caused by Covid-19 brought the first Federer ON shoes. They will be called “the ROGER”. The Roger shoe sale should start in summer at prices around $260 (€240). And surprisingly they will be street style shoes, not tennis shoes.

  1. Hey Simon, good work and an interesting bit of NEW news re the Adidas Stycon, (ugly name me thinks), …..just looking around re buying a new pair of quality tennis shoes, my dilemma, 9.5 but super wide….the soulcourt boost though tryed on fairly comfy, tho I may have to go to a 10…..
so a quick question if I may, should I wait for the possible 2020 release of the soulcourt boost, or hang in an wait for the Stycon try-on?? Can’t seem to get confirmed launch dates on anything….
    Thanks
    Ralph

    • Hi Ralph, I do not have any official info about release day of Stycon either.

I heard unofficially that they should be introduced before Australian Open (20th January). It’s two weeks so I hope we will know in a few days if that information is correct or no.

I will post it here when I get any more news about that.

  2. New vapor cage shoes are super ugly, the design is horrible, they should stick with what Rafa wear, which are Actually still the courtballistec shape of 2013 one of the best shoes ever made in design and performance.
