This week on courts 38/2021

This week on courts brings a lot of action with four regular tournaments plus Laver Cup as a bonus.

Tennis Week 38/2021

ATP 250 Astana Open

Place: Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan
September 20 – September 26
Surface: Indoor Hard
Financial Commitment: $541 800
Draw size: 28

Karatsev, Bublik, and Krajinovic will lead the pack in Nur-Sultan. But there are not the only ones who will participate at this tournament. Essentially, all players should be within the Top 100 so expect epic tennis.

ATP 250 Moselle Open

Place: Metz, France
September 20 – September 26
Surface: Indoor Hard
Financial Commitment: $481 270
Draw size: 28

Metz tournament attracts a lot of players above its ATP 250 status. Carreno-Busta, Hurkacz, De Minaur, and Monfils are all ranked in the second tenth of ATP ranking. Except for them watch out also Lorenzo Sonego, Andy Murray or Karen Khachanov.

WTA 500 J&T Banka Ostrava Open

Place: Ostrava, Czech republic
September 20 – September 26
Surface: Indoor Hard
Financial Commitment: $565 530
Draw size: 32

This will be the best tournament this week. Even if it was just for Czech players we would see three WTA TOP 10 players (Pliskova, Krejcikova, Pliskova). But additionally, we will see also Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic, and Maria Sakkari. The last accepted player on the entry list is number 38 so far. Even qualifying will be like WTA 250 tournament with all players being from WTA TOP 100.

WTA 125 Columbus

Place: Columbus, USA
September 19 – September 26
Surface: Hard
Financial Commitment: $115 000
Draw size: 32

Columbus tournament will be mainly for players who will not leave the USA after US Open and before the Indian Wells tournament held in early October. Donna Vekic, Li Ann, and Madison Brengle will be the stars of this event with the other three players from the TOP 100.

Laver Cup

Place: Boston, USA
September 24 – September 26
Surface: Indoor Hard

Can we call something traditional if it is played for the fourth time? I do not know but in its short history, Laver Cup attracted a lot of great players and showed great tennis too.

This year it will be the first time without Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal but the quality is still assured. Just check the line-up:

Team Europe: Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev, Berrettini, Ruud
Team World: Shapovalov, Schwartzman, Auger-Aliassime, Opelka, Isner, Kyrgios

Team Europe has won all three Laver Cups so far and it should not change this year.

Next Week (39/2021) Schedule:

ATP 250 San Diego Open, San Diego, USA
ATP 250 Sofia Open, Sofia, Bulgaria
WTA 500 Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, Chicago, USA
WTA 250 Astana Open, Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan
