This week on Courts (Rome) – 19/2021

Another week of 1000s level tennis. We are moving from Madrid to Rome.

Tennis Week 19/2021

ATP 1000 Internazionali BNL d’Italia

Place: Rome, Italy
May 9 – May 16
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $2 563 710
Draw size: 56

Seventeen out of ATP’s top twenty players were on the entry list shortly before the tournament. Some of them will withdraw at the last moment but we can get a lot of excellent matchups during this week at the beautiful Rome tennis stadium.

Nadal and Tsitsipas lost in the quarterfinals in Madrid, so their time for revenge is here.  Djokovic will play on clay after the break too. I would say one of these three will win the event.

Who to watch: Djokovic, Nadal, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Schwartzman, Rublev, Berrettini
Our worth the money call: Tsitsipas

WTA 1000 Internazionali BNL d’Italia

Place: Madrid, Spain
May 10 – May 16
Surface: Outdoor Clay
Financial Commitment: $ 1 835 490
Draw size: 64

That is not quite usual but all top ten players and eighteen of the top twenty players should be present at Roma clay courts. I believe there will be some last-minute withdrawals after the Madrid tournament ends, but we can call this tournament a small Grand Slam on clay. Serena Williams makes her first appearance on the clay this season and it will a hard task to stay in the draw till the last day.

Who to watch: Barty, Halep, Svitolina, Pliskova, Sabalenka, Kvitova, Swiatek, Williams Serena
Our worth the money call: Halep
