Still, one important decision lies ahead. You need to choose the correct tennis racket grip size. Wrong grip size can impact the quality of your game. It can even cause wrist injury. Here are a few quick tips for choosing the right tennis racket grip size.

Tennis Racket Grip Size

The size of the grip is the circumference of the tennis racket handle. You can easily measure that with twine and ruler. There are six different sizes of grips each corresponding with the range in millimeters. US and European use different system of marks. US Sizes are basically the circumference in inches, European sizes are numeric order of sizes.

Usually, you will find the size of the grip on the racket handle or on the frame. European sizes are sometimes shown without the capital L.

It is hard to determine the most common racket size grip. Every player has different hands and therefore it is hard to generalize. However, sellers and racket manufacturers claim that 4 1/4, 4 3/8, 4 1/2 sizes are the most sold ones.

How to measure the right grip size for you?

The easiest way to find the right tennis racket grip size is to check different grips at the store or on the court. Try to hold the racket for a while to find out how comfortable you feel. You can also ask the shop owner to let you test play a few different rackets with different grip sizes to find out the most suitable.

If you are shopping tennis racket online you need to measure how big your hand is. The length between the tip of your ring finger and bottom lateral palm crease is your tennis racket grip size.

The length in inches gives you the exact measure of racket handle size. In case you need to convert from millimeters or from European size system check our table above.

If the length of your hand is exactly between two grip sizes, go for the smaller grip. You can always large the tennis racket handle with the use of overgrip tape.
